Abstract

Sumber radikal bebas sering kita jumpai disekitar kita. ----- Sources of free radicals we often encounter around us. These free radicals if they enter the body in high levels can cause oxidative stress and cause damage to the structure and function of cells in the body. Compounds that can be used to ward off free radicals are antioxidants. One of the plants that have very high prospects for development is the teklan plant (Eupatorium riparium Regel). This study aims to determine the results of characterization, phytochemical screening of teklan leaves. In addition, a journal review was conducted to collect information about plants with antioxidant activity from the genus Eupatorium using online searches from several scientific publications both nationally and internationally. The results of the simplicia characterization of Teklan leaves meet the general requirements of simplicia, the results of the phytochemical screening of Teklan leaves are positive for groups of flavonoid compounds, tannins, phenols, quinones, steroids and saponins, while the results of the literature study show that 6 species of the genus Eupatorium have been reported to have different antioxidant activities. different. Judging from the kinship factor and the content of chemical compounds, it is possible that teklan leaves (Eupatorium riparium Regel) have potential antioxidant activity.
