Abstract
--- Black grass jelly (Mesona palustris BL) is an antioxidant-rich plant with scientifically proven activity in diabetes and dyslipidemia. Dyslipidemia is a medical condition in which there is an imbalance in lipid levels that can trigger excessive free radical production. The purpose of this study was to determine how the effect of giving black grass jelly ethanol extract to dyslipidemia rats on reducing malondialdehyde levels. Extraction of black grass jelly leaves using 96% ethanol. Male rats as many as 24 heads were divided into 6 groups, namely negative, positive, simvastatin comparison and ethanol extract of black grass jelly leaves in doses of 200, 400, 600 mg / kg BW, all groups of test animals were induced with fat-rich feed and propylthiouracil (PTU) 12.5 mg / kg BW, pure cholesterol 200 mg/ kg BW, and cholic acid 75 mg / kg BW for 3 weeks. Measurement of MDA in rat liver using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The data obtained were tested with one-way ANOVA, and continued with LSD test. The results showed that the administration of ethanol extract of black grass jelly leaves was able to reduce malondialdehyde levels, the best and significant decrease in levels was shown in the dose of ethanol extract of black grass jelly leaves at a dose of 600 mg / kg BW with the average result obtained of 0.131 nmol / ml and the results in the simvastatin comparison group obtained 0.148.
