Abstract
----- Defective Arabica coffee beans are coffee beans that are poorly shaped and do not pass quality control so they cannot be marketed. Defective Arabica coffee beans naturally still contain compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenolics that have antibacterial activity so that one of them can be used as cosmetic preparations, namely facial wash gel. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of defect arabica coffee bean extract and determine the basic formula for a good facial wash gel. The antibacterial activity test method used is well diffusion by determining the value of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of defect arabica coffee bean extract and optimization of the basic formula for facial wash gel using variations in the concentration of carbomer 940, namely 0.25% (B1), 0.5% (B2), and 1% (B3). The results showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration of defected arabica coffee bean extract was at a concentration of 2% with an inhibitory power of 2.03±1.43 mm and the basic formula for facial wash gel that met the requirements of organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, pH, spreadability and foaming power was gel facial wash at a concentration of carbomer 940 0.5% with antibacterial test results of 7.430.40 mm, so it can be concluded that the deformed arabica coffee bean extract has antibacterial activity while the best facial cleansing gel basic formula is in formula B2.
