Abstract

------ Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) contains flavonoid secondary metabolites and is associated with the activity of warding off cancer-causing free radicals at a concentration (IC50) of 0.47 ppm. Quinoa extract has an unpleasant aroma and taste, making it less popular among patients of all ages. Effervescent tablets are the answer to the chosen drug delivery system by utilizing additional ingredients to overcome the unpleasant taste and aroma of the extract. Acidic and basic ingredients determine how the tablet can dissolve completely, so variations in the amount of acid and base in each formula need to be evaluated. This study aims to determine the good composition variations between citric acid, tartaric acid, and sodium bicarbonate in quinoa extract effervescent tablets and to determine the strength of antioxidant activity in effervescent tablets containing quinoa extract. This study used a true experimental laboratory method, including the stages of making quinoa extract, testing the antioxidant activity of the DPPH method using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, variations in the amount of acid and base from 6 formulas (45%, 50%, 55%, 60%, 65%, 70%) in the formulation of quinoa extract effervescent tablets, and tablet evaluation. The antioxidant activity test was analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a linear equation with the absorbance value. The results of the tablet evaluation were analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) using the Shapiro-Wilk, ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis normality tests. The results of the study showed that variations in the amount of acid and base affected the tablet evaluation. The greater the amount of acid and base, the longer the dissolution time. Formula 6 with 70% acid and base was the formula with the fastest dissolution time and met the evaluation requirements, such as a moisture content of 1.38%; a flow rate of 9.62 grams/s, an angle of repose of 20.9°, a dissolution time of 3.14 minutes; and a pH of 5.85.
