Abstract
--- Acne is a skin disease that is almost experienced by most of the population (90%) from adolescents to adults. One of the plants that can be efficacious as an antibacterial is the dekopon orange plant (Citrus reticulata B.). This plant contains secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and essential oils that can be used as antibacterials. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of dekopon orange peel against Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria. Ethanol extract from dekopon orange peel was obtained by maceration using 50%, 70%, and 96% ethanol which produced yields of 29.38%, 28.01%, and 24.01%. Microdilution was used to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), while agar dilution was used to determine the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The 50%, 70%, and 96% ethanol extracts of dekopon orange peel showed a MIC value against Propionibacterium acne of 2000 pm. While 50%, 70%, and 96% ethanol extracts of dekopon orange peel showed MIC values against Staphylococcus epidermidis of 1000 - 2000 ppm. MBC against Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermidis amounted to 16,000 ppm and 32,000 ppm. It can be concluded that 50%, 70%, and 96% ethanol extracts of dekopon orange peel have the potential to inhibit the growth of Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermidis.
