Abstract

Infeksi mata merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan umum yang terjadi pada hewan peliharaan, terutama anjing dan kucing. Infeksi ini dapat disebabkan oleh bakteri seperti Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, dan Escherichia coli, yang dapat mengakibatkan iritasi, peradangan, bahkan kebutaan jika tidak ditangani. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi potensi antibiotik dari sediaan tetes mata gentamisin sulfat terhadap keempat bakteri tersebut. Uji potensi dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi agar dengan desain 2+2, yaitu ditetapkan dengan membandingkan daya hambat sediaan antibiotik dengan daya hambat antibiotik baku/standar terhadap bakteri. Hasil uji evaluasi menunjukan sediaan memenuhi persyaratan organoleptis, kejernihan, pH, tidak mengalami kebocoran dan steril. Uji potensi menunjukkan bahwa hanya terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228 sediaan berada dalam rentang potensi yang dapat diterima (102,43%), sedangkan terhadap bakteri lainnya berada di luar rentang 95-105%. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa uji potensi antibiotik pada sediaan tetes mata belum bisa untuk semua jenis bakteri penyebab infeksi mata. Nilai perbandingan sebesar 97,45%, yang berarti potensi sampel setara dengan 97,45% dari potensi pembanding. ----- Eye infections are one of the common health problems in pets, particularly dogs and cats. These infections can be caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Escherichia coli, which may lead to irritation, inflammation, and even blindness if left untreated. This study aims to evaluate the antibiotic potential of gentamicin sulfate eye drops against the four bacteria. The potency test was carried out using the agar diffusion method with a 2+2 design, determined by comparing the inhibitory activity of the antibiotic preparation with that of a standard reference antibiotic against the bacteria. The evaluation results showed that the preparation met the requirements for organoleptic properties, clarity, pH, leakage-proof condition, and sterility. The potency test indicated that the preparation was within the acceptable potency range (102.43%) only against Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, while for the other bacteria, it fell outside the 95–105% range. These results suggest that the antibiotic potency test of the eye drop preparation cannot be applied uniformly to all bacterial species causing eye infections. The comparison value was 97.45%, indicating that the sample’s potency was equivalent to 97.45% of the reference standard.
