Abstract
Minyak akar wangi (Vetiver Oil) merupakan salah satu komoditas minyak atsiri bernilai ekonomi tinggi yang banyak dimanfaatkan dalam industri parfum, kosmetik, dan aromaterapi. Namun, mutu minyak akar wangi asal Indonesia masih sering berada dibawah Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) karena adanya pengotor seperti norsesquiterpen serta kontaminasi logam Fe dan Cu yang berasal dari proses destilasi konvensional. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perubahan karakteristik minyak akar wangi sebelum dan setelah adsorpsi menggunakan bentonit, serta menentukan persentase bobot bentonit yang paling optimal dalam meningkatkan mutu minyak. Metode penelitian dilakukan dengan proses adsorpsi menggunakan bentonit dengan tiga variasi persentase bobot, yaitu 50%, 100%, dan 150%, dengan tambahan pelarut heksana untuk menurunkan viskositas minyak. Minyak hasil adsorpsi dikarakterisasi berdasarkan parameter mutu sesuai SNI, yang meliputi uji organoleptis, bobot jenis, indeks bias, kelarutan dalam etanol 95%, bilangan asam, bilangan ester, bilangan ester setelah asetilasi, dan kadar vetiverol total. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adsorpsi dengan bentonit mampu meningkatkan mutu minyak. Sampel dengan persentase bobot bentonit 150% (MAW-B150%) memberikan hasil paling optimal, ditunjukkan dengan terjadinya perbaikan pada warna minyak (coklat kemerahan) sesuai standar organoleptis, bobot jenis (0,980 g/cm³) yang memenuhi rentang SNI, serta kadar vetiverol total (81,49%) yang jauh melebihi batas minimal 50%. Namun meskipun demikian, beberapa parameter masih belum sepenuhnya memenuhi standar SNI. ------ Vetiver oil a high-value essential oil widely used in perfumes, cosmetics, and aromatherapy. However, the quality of Indonesian vetiver oil often falls below the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) due to impurities such as norsesquiterpenes and Fe and Cu contamination from conventional distillation. This study aimed to evaluate changes in vetiver oil characteristics before and after bentonite adsorption and to determine the most effective bentonite weight percentage for quality improvement. Adsorption was performed using bentonite at three weight percentages (50%, 100%, and 150%) with hexane as a solvent to reduce viscosity. The oil was analyzed according to SNI parameters, including organoleptic properties, specific gravity, refractive index, solubility in 95% ethanol, acid value, ester value, ester value after acetylation, and total vetiverol content. Results showed that bentonite adsorption improved oil quality, with the 150% bentonite sample (MAW-B150%) yielding the best performance, as indicated by improved color (reddish-brown), specific gravity of 0.980 g/cm³, and total vetiverol content of 81.49%, exceeding the minimum requirement of 50%. However, some parameters still did not fully meet SNI standards.
