Abstract
Manggis (Garcinia mangostana L.) diketahui mempunyai kandungan senyawa isolat alfa mangostin yang memiliki potensi sebagai antioksidan. Lip balm merupakan sediaan yang diaplikasikan ke bibir untuk melembabkan dan melindungi bibir dari faktor lingkungan yang merugikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur aktivitas antioksidan isolat alfa mangostin dengan metode ABTS, mengetahui formula basis paling stabil untuk sediaan lip balm, serta mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan isolat alfa mangostin dalam sediaan lip balm menggunakan metode ABTS. Optimasi basis sediaan lip balm dibuat menjadi 4 formula dengan variasi konsentrasi cera alba yaitu 5%, 10%, 15%, dan 20%. Uji aktivitas antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode ABTS (2,2-azinobis-(3- etilbenzotiazolin-6-asam sulfonat). Hasil optimasi basis menunjukkan bahwa formula 4 dengan konsentrasi cera alba 20% memiliki stabilitis paling baik karena telah memenuhi semua persyaratan evaluasi. Isolat alfa mangostin memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat dengan nilai IC50 4,20 ppm. Formula sediaan lip balm dibuat berdasarkan hasil optimasi basis yaitu pada formula 4 dengan penambahan isolat alfa mangostin sebanyak 0,034%. Evaluasi sediaan lip balm meliputi pengujian organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, titik leleh, kelembaban, dan uji aktivitas antioksidan. --- Mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana L.) was known to contain compounds of alpha mangostin isolate with the potential as antioxidants. Lip balm was a formulation applied to the lips to moisturize and protect them from detrimental environmental factors. The aim of this study was to measure the antioxidant activity of alpha mangostin isolate using the ABTS method, identify the most stable base formula for the lip balm formulation, and ascertain the antioxidant activity of alpha mangostin isolate in the lip balm using the ABTS method. The optimization of the lip balm base was conducted to create four formulas with varying concentrations of cera alba, namely 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The antioxidant activity test was conducted using the ABTS method (2,2-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)). The optimization results of the base formula indicated that formula 4 with a concentration of 20% cera alba exhibited the best stability as it fulfilled all evaluation criteria. Alpha mangostin isolate demonstrated highly potent antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 4.20 ppm. The lip balm formula was then prepared based on the optimized base formula, which was formula 4, with the addition of 0.034% alpha mangostin isolate. The evaluation of the lip balm formulation encompassed sensory testing, homogeneity, pH measurement, melting point determination, moisture content, and antioxidant activity testing.
