Abstract
Glaukoma merupakan penyakit gangguan mata yang dapat menyebabkan kebutaan. Penyakit ini ditandai dengan terjadinya peningkatan tekanan intraokular. Modalitas terapi yang ada saat ini diantaranya obat yang dapat menurunkan tekanan intraokular dan kebanyakan diberikan melalui rute topikal. Telur keong mas (Pomea canaliculata) diketahui mengandung flavonoid dan pigmen karoten yang berpotensi mampu menurunkan tekanan intraokular. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui adanya aktivitas antiglaukoma serbuk telur keong mas pada model tikus glaukoma. Telur keong mas diperas kemudian dikeringkan di dalam oven pada suhu 50oC selama 24 jam hingga terbentuk serbuk. Tikus dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok kontrol yaitu normal, glaukoma, obat (asetazolamid 22,5 mg/kg), dan 1 kelompok uji yaitu serbuk telur keong mas 500 mg/kg. Induksi glaukoma dilakukan pada semua hewan uji menggunakan prednisolon asetat 1% kecuali kelompok kontrol normal. Tekanan intraokular diukur menggunakan tonometer schiotz dan dijadikan parameter untuk menilai aktivitas antiglaukoma dari bahan uji. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian asetazolamid dan serbuk telur keong mas mampu menurunkan tekanan intraokular, berturut-turut sebesar 51,46±8,1 dan 31,93±12,27%. Serbuk telur keong mas Pomacea canaliculata memiliki aktivitas antiglaukoma melalui efek penurunan tekanan intraokular namun potensinya masih lebih kecil dibandingkan asetazolamid. ------ Glaucoma is an eye disease that can cause blindness. This disease is characterized by an increase in intraocular pressure. The currently available therapeutic modalities include drugs that can lower intraocular pressure and are mostly administered by the topical route. Golden snail eggs (Pomea canaliculata) are known to contain flavonoids and carotene pigments that have the potential to reduce intraocular pressure. This study was conducted to determine the antiglaucoma activity of golden snail egg powder in a glaucoma rat model. The golden snail eggs were squeezed and then dried in the oven at 50oC for 24 hours to form a powder. Rats were divided into 3 control groups, namely normal, glaucoma, drug (acetazolamide 22.5 mg/kg), and 1 test group, namely 500 mg/kg golden snail egg powder. Glaucoma induction was performed on all test animals using 1% prednisolone acetate except the normal control group. Intraocular pressure was measured using a Schiotz tonometer and used as a parameter to assess the antiglaucoma activity of the test material. The results showed that the administration of acetazolamide and golden snail egg powder was able to reduce intraocular pressure, by 51.46±8.1 and 31.93±12.27%, respectively. Pomacea canaliculata golden snail egg powder has antiglaucoma activity through the effect of lowering intraocular pressure but its potency is still lower than acetazolamide.
