Abstract

The plant faloak (Sterculia quadrifida) has antioxidant activity. The leaves of faloak contain phenolic compounds, flavonoids, monoterpenes and steroids. Spray gel is a preparation that has the advantage of being comfortable in topical use and in delivering evenly distributed preparations without the need for direct contact. This purpose of this study to analyze the antioxidant activity of the extract with various solvents and spray gel preparations of faloak leaf extract against free radical DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl). The leaves of faloak were extracted by graded maceration method with n-hexane, ethyl acetate and 96% ethanol solvent and made in a spray gel preparation with 2 variations of extract concentrations in formula I and II, respectively 31 mg and 69 mg. Antioxidant activity is determined by the DPPH method which has the principle of decreasing the absorbance value which is proportional to the increase in the concentration of antioxidant compounds as stated by IC50 (Inhibition Concentration). The IC50 results obtained were n-hexane extract, respectively; ethyl acetate; ethanol 96% faloak leaves, formula I, and II, namely 51, 447 µg / mL; 49,440 µg / mL; 31, 482 µg / mL; 186, 907 µg / mL; and 97.739 µg / mL. The conclusion of this study is a spray gel preparation that has antioxidant activity and meets the requirements for the characteristics of spray gel
