Abstract
--- Infection is a contagious disease caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. The kinds of bacteria that can cause infection are Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella typhi. The usage of antibiotics is recommended in bacterial infection treatment. However, some microorganisms are resistant to antimicrobials. The resistance of a microorganism to the antimicrobials makes people start using medicines from natural inggredients, including a-mangosteen rind. The α-mangosteen isolate contained in the mangosteen can inhibit the growth of bacteria. Therefore, this study aims to determine whether α-mangosteen isolate can inhibit the growth of Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella typhi bacteria and determine at what concentration the α-mangosteen isolate provides the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Kill Concentration (MKC) on the bacteria Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella typhi. The antibacterial research method used in this study is the diffusion method using disc paper. The result of the antibacterial activity test of α-mangosteen isolates against Enterococcus faecalis and Salmonella typhi bacteria as an inhibitor of bacterial growth but not as a bacteria killer, therefore α-mangosteen isolates had antibacterial activity against Enterococcus faecalis within MIC of 25 µg/mL, while against Salmonella typhi within MIC of 250 µg/mL.
