Abstract

Metil sinamat merupakan komponen minyak atsiri yang dapat ditemukan pada rizoma Alpinia malaccenensis. Metil sinamat merupakan senyawa ester dari asam sinamat yang mempunyai rumus kimia C₁₀H₁₀O₂, mempunyai bentuk kristal berwarna putih hingga kekuningan. Dalam bidang kesehatan, metil sinamat dapat digunakan sebagai antelmintik dan memiliki aktivitas sebagai tabir surya, selain itu juga metil sinamat dapat digunakan dalam bidang kosmetika atau non-kosmetik, bahkan dapat digunakan sebagai pewangi dan pemberi rasa. Saat ini data kelarutan metil sinamat belum banyak diketahui, sehingga penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kelarutan metil sinamat dalam pelarut metanol, aseton dan kloroform dengan mengunakan metode spektrofotometri ultraviolet. Hasil penelitian kelarutan metil sinamat yang telah dilakukan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri ultraviolet menunjukan kelarutan metil sinamat dalam pelarut kloroform 0,1008 g/mL, aseton 0,027 g/mL dan metanol 0,026g/mL. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilakukan dapat disimpulkan bahwa metil sinamat bersifat mudah larut pada pelarut kloroform, agak sukar larut pada pelarut aseton dan metanol. --- Methyl cinnamate is an essential oil component that can be found in the rhizome Alpinia malaccenensis. Methyl cinnamate is an ester compound of cinnamic acid which has the chemical formula C₁₀H₁₀O₂, has a white to yellowish crystalline form. In the health field, methyl cinnamate can be used as an anthelmintic and has activity as a sunscreen, furthermore methyl cinnamate can be used in the cosmetic or noncosmetic, and can even be used as a fragrance and flavoring agent because methyl cinnamate was very safe to used. Currently, the solubility data of methyl cinnamate is not widely known, so this study aims to test the solubility of methyl cinnamate in methanol, acetone and chloroform solvents using the ultraviolet spectrophotometric method. The results of the research on the solubility of methyl cinnamate which were carried out using the ultraviolet spectrophotometric method showed that the solubility of methyl cinnamate in chloroform solvent was 0.1008 g/mL, acetone 0.027 g/mL, and methanol 0.026g/mL. Based on the research that has been done, it can be concluded that methyl cinnamate is easily soluble in chloroform solvent, slightly soluble in acetone and methanol solvents.
